Blogging Mistakes to Avoid

Everyone makes mistakes. If you’re like us, you learn from mistakes, so you can improve and grow your business. Here are some common blogging mistakes to avoid and/or learn from.

I recently attended a networking meeting with small business owners from throughout New Hampshire. The idea of the meeting was to connect with different types of businesses, and to exchange contact information with hopes of being able to cross refer each other to people we know looking for each other’s products and services.

The thing about networking is that it requires the ability to connect with people on a personal level. And to do that typically requires a combination of confidence, passion and the ability to tell a really good story.  If you are lacking in confidence, then you may seem inauthentic, or otherwise less intelligent than you actually are. If you lack passion for what you do, it will be obvious in how you conduct business, and the quality of the products and/or services you provide. But even if you are confident and passionate about what you do – it will be hard to prove any of that without a compelling story.

Choosing Your Domain Name

Choosing a domain name (if you don’t already have one) may seem simple, but it has far-reaching implications you should know about.

We’ve written a lot on the topic of mobile web design recently, specifically on the importance of providing a great user experience for mobile users. But we’re not the only ones; everyone’s talking about it, because it’s a pretty big deal. Gone are the days of simply throwing a few pages of text about your company and products online and calling it a website. If you aren’t catering to the mobile audience, you’re neglecting what’s fast becoming the majority of digital users, and wasting precious resources: your time and money.

Comparing Social Networks: Facebook Wins

With so many social media platforms vying for the attention of today’s online searchers, Facebook still wins as the most popular social media networking platform. But that doesn’t mean it’s the only one that matters.

According to Sprout Social, “"Facebook still reigns as the most popular social media network with 79% of internet users in the US logging on the site.”

Now compare that to:

  • Twitter (24%)
  • Pinterest (31%)
  • Instagram (32%)
  • LinkedIn (29%)

That said, Facebook isn’t necessarily the best at everything. One report said that:

  • 47% of marketers agreed Twitter was the best social media channel for customer engagement.
  • Instagram drives the most engagement per post compared to any social network–84 times more than Twitter, 54 times more than Pinterest and 10 times more than Facebook.
  • 94% B2B organizations rely on LinkedIn for content marketing and distribution.
  • 100 million hours of video is viewed daily on Facebook.

Social Prospecting “How-To Guide”

Do you want to learn more about using social media to prospect and generate leads for your business?

Wednesday, 26 April 2017 19:46

Hello - Is Anybody Home?

Are you monitoring your social messages? According to Sprout Social, 89% of social media messages to brands go ignored. We don’t think this makes very good business sense.

So, you’ve been listening to what experts have been saying about mobile web design, and you’re ready to upgrade your site accordingly. Where do you begin?

Give Them What They Want

It’s best to start by reconfirming the purpose of your website – which is to attract and delight new and existing customers, right? What do they want? What do they need? First, let’s talk about what they don’t want. According to a report by the marketing firm, Blue Hornet, “70% of consumers delete emails immediately that don’t render well on a mobile device.” Your customers don’t want to struggle with their mobile viewing experiences. They don’t want to have to do extra work to be able to view a certain web page or email.

Modern Marketing Checkup

Modern marketing is complicated.  Are you doing it right? Maybe it’s time for a quick checkup.

Though they may seem like simple questions, the answers should be something businesses are paying much closer attention to than they are. Why? Because the answers are an indication of the critical importance our society places on the Internet and the websites that live there.

How often have you thought about Internet usage with regards to who’s using it and why? Has the thought ever crossed your mind? Probably. However, we (businesses and marketers) spend so much time thinking about what we use the Internet for, that we don’t always consider how it’s being used by everyone else.

Let’s Get Visual

Visual content is becoming the norm, because text only is, well, boring!

Desktop is so last year. With the Oscars and New York Fashion Week fresh in our minds, we’ve got a little high fashion on the brain. And, while comparing the fashion industry to the marketing industry is not entirely like comparing apples to apples, there are a few aspects that do intersect.

For almost every business operating today, your website is your place on the map. Without it, you simply don’t exist for most people. If you aren’t willing to invest in a website or some other online presence to showcase the details and capabilities of your business, you aren’t likely to succeed in today’s business market/

Most successful business owners already know this. However, if your business has been around for a while, it’s possible (and extremely likely) that your website may be outdated. Even if your business is only a few years old, your website may not be fully optimized for today’s users - or for what Google wants to see. In just the last five years, there have been many important changes in web design and development, making it nearly impossible for an old site to stay current with the most important requirements for success online as well as maintaining a website that looks good and works for you.
