In some ways, marketing is very similar to construction. You use certain tools to accomplish specific jobs all in the pursuit of achieving an overall goal. One issue that complicates the process, though, is that many people do not understand which of the marketing tools accomplish what specific jobs.

For example (this is one we hear a lot!), running print ads doesn’t make your prospective customers call you. If we had a nickel for every time we heard “we ran ads in the local and nothing happened,” we’d have at least enough to buy lunch!
