Sometimes, tooting your own horn sometimes sounds off-key. When you toot others as well, it gets much more musical.

You hear over and over again not to be too self-promotional in your social media, blogging and online content. But if you’re not allowed to promote yourself, then what’s the point, right? Wrong. Consider your blogging and social media much like you would a conversation at a cocktail party. Offer information you’ve found that you think the audience would enjoy or find valuable or interesting. Tell them something they didn’t know – background or stories behind your company, product or brand. And, when you want to toot your horn, consider wrapping it in an entire horn section of toots. There’s no harm in talking about other companies, especially those that somehow complement what you offer.
