Silence is Golden

Have you ever gone to a website or news page and suddenly had sound blaring from your computer speakers? Annoying sometimes, isn’t it? Advertisers vying for your attention turned up the volume trying to reach you...to interrupt you. But sometimes, silence is golden...

With more users muting, swiping and scrolling past content, advertisers are beginning to experiment with acceptable interruption. The ad still appears in your content and the video may autoplay, but the ads are are muted and must be clicked/tapped to play sound.

Putting the viewer in the driver’s seat has forced advertisers to get more creative in their silence, creating visuals that they hope will be attention grabbing and provide enough intrigue to compel viewers to listen rather than forcing them to listen.
