SEO Grown Locally

An important but sometimes overlooked aspect of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is local directory listing.

The importance of local directory listings is three-fold.

These directories tend to do really well in search rankings. So while you might not be able to get your site to appear on the first page or two of the SERPs, a local directory listing for your business might.

Secondly, these directories have “authority” and thus each directory listing that includes your website URL is a “vote” for your business, which can help improve your search rankings.

Thirdly, local search engines look for citations that validate business information. Therefore, consistent listings across local directories can improve search engines’ confidence in the accuracy of your business information and rank your site higher.

Some of the largest directories  include: Yellowpages.com, Yelp, Local.com, Whitepages.com, Manta, SuperPages and CitySearch.

However, there are so many local directories, adding your listing to all of them and managing the information can be tedious. Look into Local Listing Services such as Moz Local to publish and manage your listing across directories.

Do you know someone who should see this?
