TLS and Gmail Deliverability

Privacy, especially in the age of social media, has become a hot topic. Internet users are concerned about how their personal information is stored and used, and the level to which it is protected against hackers and thieves.

To help alleviate concerns over privacy, Google has begun alerting users when messages are not encrypted in transit using Transport Layer Security (TLS).

While Google has supported TLS and encrypts messages both incoming and outgoing as best it can, Google wants to alert users that the sender’s service doesn’t necessarily protect message content in the same way.

Not all messages warrant this level of protection nor will it necessarily affect deliverability now,  but it can set users’ minds at ease.

As a marketer looking to build relationships and trust via content marketing and lead nurturing, it makes sense to enable TLS  on all outbound emails.
