Too Good To Be True

We’d all love for our website to appear in the first position of the first search engine results page (SERP). But achieving this coveted spot requires a lot of effort, SEO expertise and a bit of luck.

Even with all the proper strategies in place, no guarantees can be made with regard to your rankings. If an SEO expert or agency promises results such as this, be wary.

Todd Mintz recently recounted the story of a search agency in Texas that used deceptive or black hat SEO tactics without his client’s knowledge, landing him in federal prison for 37 months.

Make sure you vet any potential search marketing experts to ensure they are both knowledgeable and ethical.

Mr. Mintz outlines four questions and the answers you should be listening for to help you evaluate them:

  • How do you stay up-to-date on best practices?

  • When was the last time you changed your approach to SEO and SEM?

  • What’s the best way to utilize the power of mobile?

  • What’s the most important consideration when setting search strategy?

Do you know someone who should see this?
